This is the 16th episode of the 13th season of the live action tv series “Supernatural”. This source was created as a brainchild of the producers and director of the Supernatural series. The rights of both shows are owned by Warner Bros. so the pitch to make this episode a possibility was a short one. The design of this episode follows along with the setting and colors of classic Scooby cartoons. The crossover of these shows was one made with a perfect blend of a nostalgic Scooby Doo mystery with the gritty ghost hunting style of horror seen throughout the Supernatural series. Also, with the mashup of these two shows the opportunity for marketing specialized merchandise was a viable option.
The creation of this crossover animated episode between two of the longest running tv shows to date is the mythical unicorn of television history. Scooby-Doo cartoons first aired in 1966 and continue to entertain generation after generation for over 50 years. Supernatural is one of the longest running live-action fantasy TV series in American history, the first episode aired in 2005 and ran for 16 seasons the final episode airing in 2020. The storyline that was chosen for this mashup came from the episode, “A Night of Fright is No Delight,” which aired as part of the season one of “Scooby Doo, Where Are You!” that was first released in 1966. The standard that the producers used for making this mashup showed respect for the Scooby show in its entirety. The application that was used while keeping the horror theme of hunting real ghosts apparent remains in the details throughout the episode, for example, how Dean refused to let the gang know that the ghost was real.
