The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo

This split off series was the seventh remake of the Scooby Doo Franchise. It featured all of the original themes and nostalgic comedic acts of Scooby Doo and his best pal Shaggy.  However, this series was diffrrent from its predecessors in the way that only Daphne joined Scooby and Shaggy on their adventures, as opposed to the entire gang being present to take down the bad guys.  Another difference seen in this series was the reality of the ghosts themselves.  These were not villains wearing mask but in fact real spirits out to cause mischief and mayhem.

The production of this series fell within the frame of a popular culture craze following the release of the first Ghostbuster film in 1984.  The timing of this release was well considered and brought the craze of real ghost hunting to the Scooby Doo universe.  Unlike in previous series The New Scooby Doo Movies, where the gang helped two genies in Persia to fight off an evil djinn, in the episode “Mystery in Persia.”  Though this was the first recorded time that the gang faced a real monster, the idea of continuing this theme into future episodes was not considered due to the fan base response being that of disregard, preferring the idea that all the monsters in the series were real people.
